Danceworx Dance Outfit and Dance Shoes

At Danceworx we do not expect dancers to buy a uniform when they start as we understand you need to see if it is something they like to do. However, after a few weeks, it is essential that they buy appropriate shoes as dancing is a fitness sport and, just as with running, a protective shoe designed to cushion the impact and ease movement is definitely encouraged. Dancing shoes have two most popular styles: a Jazz shoe and Dance Sneakers.

Jazz Shoe is a calf leather soft shoe with a small heal and very soft leather. Jazz shoes used for classes are black and are ideal at the introductory level. They cost between £15 and £17.

Dance Sneakers are more akin to trainers; they have a harder sole but with a gap in between the ball of the foot and heel. This allows for the foot to be pointed which is very important when dancing. We do not advise the use of normal trainers which have solid soles.  This means the foot can not be pointed properly which restricts progress and can develop bad habits and cause excess strain on the foot. The sole under the ball of the foot has a grip designed to allow the ease to turn during dancing.  It is claimed by the manufacturers this is better for the performer and reduces knee injuries. Normal trainers have a grip that is designed for forward movement only. Dance Sneakers come in loads of bright colours; they are hard wearing and are very popular. Try them on at Danceworx before you buy. Prices are between £22 for smaller sizes to £31 for the larger shoe sizes. Dance Sneakers last very well if worn at dance classes only (Much less time if they are used to skateboard in, ride a bike or knock about town in) and there is a good second hand market at the Danceworx.

Clothing

Danceworx trousers, crop tops and leotards are all designed to help movement. The branded T-Shirt gives the dancers a real sense of being part of the group. Wearing a Dance Outfit (uniform) helps parents as the kids know what they are expected to wear.
